How to choose an Olympic barbell
Every Olympic bar has 50mm sleeves. After that it comes down to length against your rack, the load rating against your lifts, and whether a specialty bar suits the job. The RooFitness Olympic bars compared.
Standard or Olympic barbell, and which weight set
Standard bars have 28mm ends and take 29mm plates with spinlock collars. Olympic bars have 50mm sleeves. The two systems do not mix, so pick one first, then choose a bar length and a set. The RooFitness standard bars and sets compared.
Squat stand or power rack
A squat stand holds the bar at height with safety supports and leaves the lift open, so it needs less floor and less headroom than a cage. When that is enough, and when to step up to a rack.
How to choose weight plates
Three bores, three materials. Standard 29mm, Olympic 50mm and the 30mm aerobic-bar plates do not mix, and cast iron, rubber-coated and bumper plates each suit a different floor and a different way of lifting. The RooFitness plates compared.
Power cage or half rack
A full cage surrounds the bar with safety bars on every side. A half rack is open at the front and takes less depth. How the RooFitness racks compare on rated load, height, footprint and what they include.
How to choose a weight bench
Flat, FID or commercial. How the load rating, the positions and the footprint decide which weight bench suits your training, with every bench in the RooFitness range compared on those numbers.
How to choose a weight plate tree
Match the spokes to the bore of your plates, then decide between a compact five-spoke tree, a six-spoke tree with a bar holder, or an open-bay rack for bumper plates. The RooFitness plate storage compared on fitment, footprint and load.
